Did you know:
“About 20 percent of Americans, 48 million, report some degree of hearing loss.”*
The primary focus of Sertoma is to assist those with hearing health issues and educating the public on the issues surrounding hearing health.
Flags are hung early in the morning and taken down after 5:00 pm. The funds raised through this program all remain locally in our community and have supported many local causes, some of which are listed below:
While I’m sure you’ve heard of many of these programs, the Deaf Camp might be one you have not. Each year, Sertoma runs a week long camp at Camp Marvin Hillyard for 60 children with hearing disabilities. Because of their hearing limitations, many of these children would never be able to attend a traditional camp, but with our funds, they get to experience camp and participate in a variety of activities including swimming, horseback riding, archery, and arts & crafts just to name a few.
About 2-3 of every 1,000 children are hard of hearing or deaf*
